FINE JEWELRY & TIMEPIECES HIGHLIGHT LEIGHTON'S SEPTEMBER 15TH AUCTION
On September 15th Leighton Galleries’ Fine Arts auction offered a collection of over 120 fine jewelry pieces. The selection was stunning, with over 50 pieces exceeding high estimate. The auction of approximately 1500 bidders, including the Internet, had no reserves.
Gent’s timepieces were of particular interest with much pre-auction activity. An 18K Breguet Transatlantique chronograph garnered the highest bid selling for $11,700 (est.10000-15000), an 18K Corum Bubble wristwatch sold at $5,800 (est.4000-6000), a Panerai Monte Carlo Luminor Marina brought $4,700 (est.4000-6000), an Audemars Piguet 18K & stainless chronograph realized $4,400 (est.3000-4000), an 18K Corum Symbiose Ventrella sold for $3,300 (est.3000-5000), a Corum 18K & stainless "Temps Mecanique” brought $2,300 (est.1500-2000), and yet another Corum in stainless steel “Admirals Cup” chronograph reached $1,800 (est.1500-2000).
Diamond jewelry also fared well. Highlights include a pair of marquise-cut cluster earrings 6.7ctw selling for $5,500 (est.4000-6000), a 1.25ct engagement ring brought $4,100 (est.1800-2400), a diamond & platinum ring 2.25ctw sold at $3,600 (est.1800-2400), an 18K ladies Bucherer Pathos Square Midi wristwatch realized $2,700 (est.2500-3500), a free-form bangle 1.50ctw garnered $1,500 (est.800-1200), and an alexandrite & diamond ring 2.19ctw sold for $1,300 (est.1500-2500).
Last but certainly not least, gold lots did exceptionally well, far exceeding high estimates. A fancy link necklace 87.3gms. reached the highest bid for gold selling at $3,000 (est.1700-1900), an anchor link necklace & bracelet set 80.2gms. sold for $2,700 (est.1600-1700), an 18K wide link bracelet 59.6gms. brought $2,400 (est.1500-1700), a chain link necklace 74.8gms. realized $2,400 (est.1400-1600), an 18K fancy link necklace 50.8gms. sold at $2,200 (est.1200-1500), a fancy link bracelet 62gms. garnered $2,000 (est.1200-1400), and a 10K wide mesh bracelet 83.5gms. realized $2,100 (est.1100-1300).
